Oscars 2022 Race: New Momentum For ‘Coda’ After SAG Awards

Predicting what way Academy Award voters will lean is no easy task, which is why Forbes is tracking wins and nominations for 10 nominees for Best Picture in other top contests throughout awards season—by that metric, Dune, The Power Of The Dogand Drive My Car appear to be this year’s leading contenders, though Coda’s success at Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards could make it a frontrunner.

Belfast: 1 win, 35 nominations. Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical story about a family in Northern Ireland in the 1960s nabbed the Golden Globe award for Best Screenplay.

Coda: 2 wins, 16 nominations. This film was a surprising leader at the SAG Awards, where it won for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

West Side Story: 6 wins, 35 nominations. Ariana DeBose’s performance as Anita—the same role Rita Moreno won an Oscar for in the original— has garnered several nominations and wins so far.
