A glam Melbourne mansion that looks more mature than its years has sold after a campaign which landed it in the top ten most-desired homes in Australia.

The property named St Ives was built after the vendors acquired the address in 2007 but it appears to be a lot older - in the most special way. The architecture and design is fresh and crisp but in a classical style, capturing an elegant, bygone era.

With a rolling lawn not unlike the one that graces Daisy Buchanan's manor in The Great Gatsbymovie, the Golden Mile manor at 12 Dudley Street, Brighton, was sold for a confidential amount on May 25.

Designer Stephen Akehurst was one of the style gurus who worked on the five-bedroom estate.

The advertised guide during the campaign for Dudley Street was $21 million to $23 million, but the sale price is undisclosed. The listing agents were Michael Gibson, Robert Fletcher and Tracey Atkins of Forbes Global Properties.

The Brighton record house price is $25.26 million, according to Domain stats, which put the price guide of this sublime estate in touching distance.

St Ives was number eight in a top-ten of the most-clicked listings on Domain last month.

Designer Stephen Akehurst executed the five-bedroom home with the "timeless beauty" of a "heritage estate" the listing explains, with high-end inclusions such a loggia and pool pavilion, complemented interiors by the late Stuart Rattle.

The loggia has a wood-fire pizza oven and is suitable for all seasons. A lift whizzes between the floors, with a children's' wing, cinema and cellar in the floorplan.

Garden guru Paul Bangay crafted the manicured gardens and its installations.

Bangay recently sold his rural paradise Stonfields, in Victoria's spa region, to celebrity gardener Jamie Durie.

From "just a cow paddock" to one of the world's best gardens, Stonefields was a passion project - and gained global fame for its beauty and finesse - for landscape designer Bangay, the go-to green thumb for celebrities and power brokers. It sold to his friend Durie for more than $11 million and is set to become a deluxe retreat.

Forbes Global Properties was also behind Bangay's listing.

Gibson told Nine that the pediegree of the designers who created the property was impeccble. He would not speculate on price and said only that the buyer was local.

He said a key ingredient of Akehurst, Rattle and Bangay's work is that it is timeless, which he described as a "hallmark" of great design.

Brighton is a suburb synonymous with the A-list and sports star in Melbourne.

The median house price in Brighton is $3.2 million, which represents a rise of 6.5 per cent over 12 months and 24.6 per cent over five years, according to Domain's latest House Price Report (March 2023).
