Gardening God Paul Bangay lists iconic Stonefields - Australian Financial Review

It’s the house that’s graced coffee tables across the nation, now famed landscape gardener Paul Bangay’s iconic Stonefields rural property is on the market with a price guide of $8 to $8.8 million.

Located halfway between Kyneton and Daylesford in Victoria, the estate has been the home of Bangay for around two decades.

Bangay purchased the 50 acre property as empty cow paddocks - now the four-bedroom villa is home to one of Australia’s most spectacular country gardens

Bangay, who modelled the house on a hillside villa in Tuscany, says he designed the mix of formal and informal gardens with every season in mind, from cherry blossoms in Spring to sugar maples in Autumn.

Bangay says he’s selling because the property is simply too perfect for his creative drive.

“It’s been a very, very hard decision for me, but I feel like I have one more house and garden in me. Stonefields so perfect I can’t do much more to it. I’m 60 next year and if I can create one more garden between 60 and 70 then I’m done.”

Bangay and husband Barry McNeill are searching for their next project in the same area due to the ideal gardening conditions. Stonefields has been listed through Michael Gibson and Robert Fletcher of Forbes Global Properties.
